THE PLUMERİA HOUSES | Kayaköy,Fethiye
This project reinterprets Kayaköy’s timeless stone vernacular in a single-story horizontal volume that quietly dialogues with the abandoned stone houses of the old village:
1. Arrival & Greeting
A narrow cobblestone lane leads to a clean, white-plastered façade pierced by a slender shadow line. At the corner, a gently rounded wall—echoing the eroded local masonry—opens through a soft-arched portal. A subtly raised platform negotiates the sloping terrain, each step on the stone treads feeling unexpectedly cushioned underfoot.
2. Terrace & Water Prism
Wide sliding glass doors fuse the interior and terrace into one seamless plane. Above, a pergola of slim bamboo slats casts dappled shade across lounge and dining areas. Below, a shallow reflecting pool mirrors the sky and greenery, while organically shaped stump benches—hewn from tree roots—introduce a tactile counterpoint to the smooth floor.
3. Material & Texture Palette
Outside, rough-hewn local stone walls transition into monolithic plaster within. Stone-clad columns punctuate the perimeter, anchoring the building rhythmically to its site. Inside, warm wood-toned furniture balances the cool stone underfoot, and hidden LED cove lighting subtly accentuates the rugged texture of the walls.
4. Fluid Interior Layout
An open-plan sequence unfolds from entry through living, dining, and the central kitchen island—each vantage thoughtfully oriented toward the terrace and pool. Behind the lounge, a sculptural stone fireplace serves as an intimate focal point. Low, horizontal furnishings reinforce the visual continuity between inside and out, instilling a serene, unhurried rhythm.
5. Private Chambers
Beyond the stone shell lie the bedrooms—each conceived as a “stone cocoon.” Full-height glazing invites views of the planted courtyard, with lush foliage filtering daylight into a calm retreat. Overhead, a circular ceiling opening frames the sky like a silent skylight, deepening the sense of connection to nature.
In summary, this Kayaköy residence masterfully weaves local stone craftsmanship, minimalist modern form, and lush Mediterranean planting into a harmonious whole—offering both a quiet escape and a poetic homage to the region’s romantic heritage.
